This page explains what personal information this website handles, why, who sees it and what your choices are. It was last updated on 16 October 2026.
Who we are
This website belongs to Custom Bikes Service, the bicycle workshop run by Dennis Proskourin at Fairlawns, Watford WD17 4UH. For anything on this page, write to info@custombikesservice.com or call 07411 198707. We decide why and how the information below is used, which makes us the data controller under UK data protection law.
If you send us a message
The contact form asks for your name, your email address, an optional phone number and your message. We use them to answer you and, if you become a customer, to look after your bike. We do this because you asked us to, and because replying to enquiries is part of running a workshop.
The form sends your message as an email to the workshop mailbox. The website does not keep a copy of it. The email provider is IONOS, in the UK. We keep the email for as long as we need it to deal with your enquiry and any work that follows, and for our business records, and then delete it.
Cookies and analytics
Nothing is stored on your device until you choose. The first time you visit, a banner asks whether we may use analytics. Accepting and rejecting are equally easy.
- Your choice. We store the choice you made in a small cookie called cbs_consent, for six months, so we do not ask again on every page. It holds no personal information.
- Google Analytics. Only if you accept, we use Google Analytics 4 to count which pages people read. It sets cookies beginning _ga and sends Google a visitor identifier and your pages, device and approximate location. If you reject, or never choose, Google Analytics is not loaded at all.
You can change your mind at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page. Choosing Reject deletes the analytics cookies.
This website loads no third-party fonts, maps or embedded videos, and uses no advertising or social media tracking.
Likes and views on the blog
When you read a blog post it counts as one view. To avoid counting the same person twice, the server keeps a scrambled code made from your internet address and browser type for 12 hours, then forgets it. If you press Like, the total goes up by one and your browser keeps a small token on your own device (in local storage) so that you can take the like back. We do not store who liked or viewed a post, and bots are not counted.
Security records
To keep the website safe, the web server records each request, including your internet address, the page asked for and your browser type. These records are kept for 14 days. Our security software also notes blocked attempts, such as repeated failed sign-ins and spam. We rely on our legitimate interest in keeping the website and our customers safe.
Who else handles your information
- Google Cloud hosts the website on a server in the United States. Google provides contractual safeguards for that kind of transfer.
- IONOS provides the domain name and the email service.
- Google Analytics, only if you accept analytics as described above.
We do not sell your information and we do not use it for automated decisions.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, ask us to limit or stop using it, and ask for it in a portable form. Write to info@custombikesservice.com and we will answer within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes
If we change what the website does with your information, we will update this page and its date.
